In my first attempts at drawing, I couldn’t get enough of eyes - human, feline, eyes in magazine ads, my friends’ eyes, eyes from my imagination. I didn’t bother too much with the rest of the face as it seemed to me absolute magic that marks on paper could hold power, emotional depth, and the illusion of communication. I came to appreciate how the rest of the body also telegraphs presence and personality, and love the challenge of trying to convey something about my subject using lines and strokes of color.
